MBALE INVESTMENTS GRAIN MILLERS RDC, the producer of Mbale flour in Uganda, filed a complaint with the Goma City Hall on Thursday, July 17, to denounce the sale of counterfeit products marketed under its brand name.
Represented by its legal counsel, Me Yav Kambaba, the company says it has received several reports indicating that locally manufactured flour is being fraudulently sold under the « Mbale » brand.
According to the company, this practice damages its brand reputation and exposes consumers to products that do not meet the quality standards of genuine Mbale flour. »We came to the City Hall to file a complaint because our brand is being counterfeited. We have received numerous complaints, and we do not want this practice to continue because it is harming our image, » said Me Yav Kambaba.
The lawyer stated that the company was received by the city authorities, who pledged to look into the matter. He emphasized that authentic Mbale flour is produced in Uganda and can be identified through its authentication features. He urged consumers to purchase the product only from authorized distributors and to report any suspected counterfeit products to the relevant authorities.
At the Birere Commercial Center, Meja Shabani, manager of the Papa wa Ben gallery, an authorized distributor of Mbale flour in Goma, affirmed that her business sells only genuine products.
« The difference between the original product and counterfeit products is clearly visible. We invite consumers to buy genuine Mbale flour from us. We sell it wholesale starting at US$18.70, » she said.
Through this initiative, MBALE INVESTMENTS GRAIN MILLERS RDC aims to strengthen the protection of its brand, combat counterfeiting, and preserve consumer confidence in its products.
